Amelia Island

Amelia Island

Guidebook: Introduction

Welcome To Amelia Island!

Rich in natural beauty and historic charm, Amelia Island provides many opportunities to reconnect with what is most important and create life long memories. Amelia Island is Florida’s northernmost barrier island located 45 minutes north of Jacksonville International Airport. The moment you book your reservation your vacation has begun; the relaxed island lifestyle offers easy travel planning.

Amelia’s 13 miles of pristine beaches are perfect for strolling, bicycling, shell and shark tooth hunting, or simply relaxing. The ocean surf changes daily making boogie boarding, paddle boarding and surfing a day-to-day adventure. Come and experience why Amelia Island has been rated in the top 10 for beaches in the United States for the past five years by Conde Nast Readers.

While you’re on Amelia Island, take the time to meet some of our most famous residents: manatees, sea turtles, dolphins and dozens of bird species. State parks, trails and undeveloped nature areas provide the perfect opportunity to catch a glimpse these Floridian creatures. Fort Clinch State Park is a perfect location to absorb the natural beauty and history of the island. Along with wonderful photo opportunities, go back to 1864 with an on site soldier dressed in Civil War attire.

Visit the island’s historic city of Fernandina Beach for quaint shops and restaurants unique to the area, ideal for discovering the island charm. World class restaurants and local favorites line Centre Street. At the end of Centre Street the marina is an ideal place to toast the sunset and photograph the nostalgic shrimp boats. The marina is the doorway to the Amelia River and Atlantic Ocean, once traveled by pirates and adventure seeking enthusiasts. Create your own journey via sailboat, an eco tour or take a fishing charter into the beautiful waterways.

Become one with the island and locals by way of a guided tour in a horse drawn carriage, old time trolley ride, Segway ride, boat tour, or guided jog with our Peg Leg tour. Learn interesting tidbits unique to the island that you can stick in your pocket as your own discovered treasures!

Quintess has exclusive access to the Omni Amelia Island Plantation’s Resort located one mile north of the home. They offer world class golf and tennis in addition to 7 miles of family friendly bike trails, beach club access, fitness center, and a nature center. The resort has daily scheduled activities that keep visitors of all ages having fun!

Unique ways to create memories on Amelia Island:

  • Discover what sea turtles have known for centuries. Amelia Island is a sanctuary for Loggerhead, Green and Leatherback Sea Turtles. They nest in the spring and make their way out to the ocean in late summer. For the many volunteers it is a passion; for our visitors each nest or “dig” is an exciting bundle of anticipation.
  • Explore the waterways in search of dolphins, manatees, birds, and wild horses on Cumberland with your personal tour of the Amelia River with On the Water Adventures.
  • Soak up the simplicity of the beach and the sunrise and/or moonrise over the Atlantic Ocean. From the ocean front home, walk over your private boardwalk and notice the stress melt away as you wiggle your toes in the sand while dolphins play in the surf.
  • Create an adventure. Challenge yourself with surfing lessons, paddle boarding, yoga, horseback riding on the beach, Segway through a historic plantation, bicycle under a canopy of live oaks, kayak into the meandering back water…rejuvenate your spirit.

On Amelia Island you’ll create memories that will last a lifetime!
